Bitcoin sign Symbol

The Bitcoin sign (₿) is the official symbol representing the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. In Unicode, it is encoded at U+20BF, within the "Currency Symbols" block. It resembles the Latin capital letter "B" with two vertical strokes through it—similar in concept to the dollar sign ($), which also uses vertical lines to convey monetary value.
The Bitcoin sign was proposed as part of the growing mainstream acceptance of Bitcoin as a form of digital currency. It was officially added to the Unicode Standard in version 10.0, released in June 2017. Its inclusion helped unify how Bitcoin is displayed across software platforms, websites, and financial applications.
The design of the Bitcoin symbol pays homage to traditional currency icons but emphasizes its digital, decentralized nature. The vertical lines are not actually drawn through the letter in all fonts—they may appear only at the top and bottom, symbolizing stability and integrity in a peer-to-peer financial network.
Modern operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, generally support the Bitcoin sign. However, visibility depends on font support—fonts like Arial Unicode MS, Segoe UI Symbol, or Noto Sans Symbols often include the glyph.
